Build sheet, stock F-550 DRW crew.pdf
PDFLaunchAI converts truck body sketches and dealer build sheets into CAD drawings. Create body models and approval drawings with the specified dimensions and options. The drawing is built from the supplied measurements, notes and specifications. Unclear details are flagged for your team to review.
For sales engineers, order entry, drafters and engineering managers at truck body, upfit and trailer builders
The weekend pile is the usual mix. A dealer's build sheet for a stock F-550 with "9' body, 60 CA?" written in the margin and no VIN. A 34-page county bid spec for six service bodies with a compliance sheet due Thursday. A contractor's whiteboard sketch, photographed at an angle, with a ladder rack and a crane that may or may not happen. A fleet manager's email: "same as unit 4417 but 11 foot." A voicemail from a salesman whose customer needs the rack to clear a 9-foot garage door.
So you start with the chassis, because everything hangs off it. Pull the body builder layout book: CA, frame width, where the fuel fill and the DEF tank live on this model year. Pick the base body for the CA, open SolidWorks, set compartments, shelves, doors, latches, lights. Run the weight sheet with the body, the options and whatever payload they admitted to, and see if the rear axle is still legal. Build the BOM and routing in the ERP, then send the approval drawing back to the dealer and wait for a signature.
It's an hour or more a truck before anyone cuts steel, and the chassis is already on the lot costing the dealer money every day it sits.
What the job looks like today
VIN, CA, frame, fuel fill, DEF and exhaust for this model year.
Base body, compartments, shelves, doors, racks, lights, by hand.
Body plus options plus payload against each axle rating.
Parts, routing and price in the ERP.
VIN? Crane or no crane? Paint? PO? Then wait for the signed drawing.
Where it goes wrong
The sketch is usually right about the body. The remakes come from what it assumed about the truck underneath.
Cab-to-axle is back of cab to the rear axle centerline. The dealer measured to the front of the tire, or read the CA off a different wheelbase. Now the wheel well sits under a compartment door.
A crane needs a reinforced body, outriggers and a chassis rated for it. Add it after the body is built and you're cutting into finished compartments, or telling the customer no.
On this chassis the fuel fill is on the driver side, right where the front vertical compartment wants to go. Somebody has to draw the pocket before the body is sheared.
Unit 4417 was a different model year. The DEF tank, exhaust and frame crossmembers moved. Same body, different truck, and the underbody box no longer fits.
Why it's still manual
Body builders have strong CAD and configurators. The order still arrives as a margin note on a dealer's build sheet.
Your CAD and quoting software
Waits for someone to type
SolidWorks, Inventor and DriveWorks build a body fast once someone has decided the CA, the compartments and the options. They don't read the margin of a dealer's build sheet or a 34-page bid spec.
Generic AI and OCR models
Confidently wrong
Paste a build sheet into a chat model and it reads "9' SB 40" as 9 and 40, drops the question mark after the CA, and fills in a missing GVWR with something typical. Nothing tells you which numbers it invented.
Image-to-CAD converters
Traces lines, not intent
Image-to-CAD converters trace the whiteboard: a wobbly box behind a cab. No CA, no compartment depths, no idea the scribble over the bed was a ladder rack.
Measuring apps and configurators
Only if everyone uses them
Dealer configurators and online body builders are great for standard bodies off a price book. Upfits, municipal bids and "same as last time but" still come in as PDFs, photos and phone calls.
How the agent does it
LaunchAI converts the sketch and its measurements into CAD geometry, applies your drawing standards and prepares the related order information. Missing dimensions and unclear notes are flagged for your team to review.
Build sheets, bid specs, photos and emails, each value with a confidence score.
CA, fuel fill, DEF and frame from the VIN and the OEM layout book, before any body is drawn.
Builds the body in your CAD, fills your weight sheet and BOM the way your engineer would.
No VIN, no payload? It drafts the question to the dealer instead of assuming.
Confirm the flagged CA and the approval drawing goes to the dealer.
Caught at the desk
Today the order bounces when someone hits save. The agent runs the same checks first, fills what it can from a trusted source, and brings you only the one thing that needs a person.

With the agent
Cab to axle
Written "60 CA?" with no VIN. Body drawn on 60"; confirm on the truck before release.
Wheel well on the axle
At 60" CA the 108" body centers the wheel well on the rear axle.
Fuel fill clears
Driver-side fuel fill falls under the front vertical; pocket added to the drawing.
Axle weights
Body, shelves and stated payload run through your weight sheet against both GAWRs.
No crane on this order
Compartments not reinforced; noted on the approval drawing.
BOM and routing
Created in the ERP from your standard 108" body plus options.
Human review
The paperwork on one side, the agent's drawing on the other, and every value it read in between, with the one it's unsure of called out.
Approval you asked for
The agent configured a 108" service body on the F-550 from the dealer's build sheet, added the fuel fill pocket and ran the axle weights. The cab-to-axle needs confirmation.
Agent suggests: Confirm the 60" CA before releasing. Body length, compartment height and depth, shelves and hitch match the build sheet; lighting follows your standard.

FAQ
Yes. LaunchAI agents use your software through the screen with your team's logins: your CAD or configurator for the body, your weight sheet, your ERP for the BOM. No integration or import file to set up.
The agent never guesses a chassis dimension. It flags it, drafts a short question to the dealer, and if you allow it, draws on the most likely CA with that assumption printed on the approval drawing.
Your engineer or drafter approves the drawing before it leaves the building, and the dealer still signs the approval drawing before you build. The agent stops at both points.
Yes. It works through the spec line by line, marks where your standard body complies, and lists the exceptions for your sales engineer to decide.
It fills your own weight sheet with the body, options and stated payload and flags any axle over its rating. Engineering makes the call.
Yes. Trailer order sheets, dry freight and refrigerated van specs, flatbeds and dumps: the agent reads the order and builds it in your CAD with your rules.
